Employer Conducted Illegal Espionage on Employee, Discovered by Computer Forensics
A prominent businessman from a large corporation had given notice of resignation from his employer. During his employment, he had come to believe that a fellow employee was tracing and listening to all of his phone calls, both from his cell phone and his land line at home. Even though he resigned, he was obligated to remain with the company through the duration of his contract.

Summary:

The client believed that someone from the business had downloaded some type of spyware or Trojan virus to his computer. With these tools, he suspected someone was retrieving and viewing all of his incoming and outgoing transactions on his computer.

The client contacted ICS and spoke with a Case Analyst during his free consultation. The client and the Case Analyst determined that the best course of action would be to conduct a computer forensic analysis. This involved analyzing the contents of a 40 GB hard drive. The second objective was to document whether someone was in fact tracking the client’s information.

The private investigator who was assigned to the case created an image copy from the client’s hard drive and a performed a comprehensive scan in order to detect any malicious software.

Conclusion:

Using special software tools to examine the client’s hard drive, the private investigator was able to prove that no malicious or suspicious programs had been downloaded to the computer. This finding helped alleviate the businessman's fears that his privacy had been wrongly invaded.
