Sarbanes-Oxley Act and Securities Investigations
Sarbanes-Oxley Act and Securities Investigation: Recently, there have been dozens of scandals, both small and large, in the corporate world, such as Enron. Greedy individuals pilfered uncounted millions of dollars by "cooking the books" in accounting, and ruined the lives of thousands of workers across the world. This led to the creation of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in 2002, which strongly tightened the accounting requirements for corporations.

Sarbanes-Oxley Act

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act was officially accepted into law on 30th July 2002, and produced significant changes to legislature in regards to the financial practices of corporations as well an increase regulation by the federal government. It brings to bear strict new rules on corporations with the objective stated: "to protect investors by improving the accuracy and reliability of corporate disclosures made pursuant to the securities laws". It is also intended to "deter and punish corporate and accounting fraud and corruption, ensure justice for wrongdoers, and protect the interests of workers and shareholders" (President Bush).

The act is named after its main originators, Senator Paul Sarbanes and Representative Michael Oxley.  The Sarbanes-Oxley Act followed a series of very large corporate scandals, such as Enron.

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act helps establish corporate compliance, internal control, and also created a public company accounting board.

With the help of, and compliance to, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, ICS provides objective, independent inquiry into corporate practices and securities investigation.
